“Ideas won’t keep…” #63

Service is the rent each of us pays for living-the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time or after you have reached your personal goals.

-Marain Wright Edelman

Service means volunteering, helping without pay. It helps you feel you belong. If you are already serving your school, church, or community, explain what you do. If your not involved yet, list the kinds of things you could do.

What would your ideal service job be? Describe it in detail.

Hope well and have well.

-Proverb

If you keep on saying things are going to be bad, you have a good chance of being a prophet

-Isaac Bashevis Singer

Staying hopeful keeps your spirits up. When you believe good things will happen, you watch for an opportunity and grab it when it’s offered.

Believing that nothing will turn out right leads to a what’s-the-use attitude. You’ll overlook chances or give them just halfhearted tries.

Write about a person you know who is usually hopeful or gloomy. How has that person’s outlook affected his or her life? Describe a particular incident that shows this.

Babies of all nations are alike until adults teach them.

-Mauree Applegate

A satirical song titled “You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught” has a similar theme. It says that children must learn to hate and fear anyone different from themselves.

Why do some people want their children to dislike or look down on other people?

Would our planet be at peace if children were taught to accept and respect all peoples? Explain why you think it would or would not be.
